Peter West represented the Invasive Animals CRC at the inaugural Australian Citizen Science Association conference held at the Australian Academy of Science Shine Dome in Canberra on July 23-24. The meeting brought over 240 experts from around Australia and abroad together to learn about and discuss citizen science projects and their outcomes.

The event was sponsored by the Australian Academy of Science, Inspiring Australia, NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, Atlas of Living Australia, Gaia Resources, and the University of South Australia.

Peter spoke with many delegates throughout the 2 day event about the FeralScan community web-mapping program, and shared ideas and knowledge about current approaches for engaging with the Australia public to gather and utilize citizen data to improve the way we manage natural resources and threats, such as pests. Of particular interest was the diversity in which mobile phone apps are being used to help gather and utilize real-time data to make local land management decisions.
