See how community members within the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales use this citizen science digital resource.
Right across Australia, FeralScan is helping communities monitor, map and manage pest species.
In NSW, the FeralScan citizen science tool is used extensively by biosecurity authorities, professional pest controllers, communities and landholder groups – and nearly 23,000 people have collectively entered 190,000 reports of pests and pest control.
Throughout the Northern Tablelands, FeralScan has been an essential platform since 2018, with over 1,300 landholders and community members signed up, and encouraged to work together to manage pests.
The region hosts over 40 private community groups in FeralScan, and more than 18,000 reports of pest animals have been entered – guiding control programs to reduce pest impacts. The FeralScan platform is used continuously by NSW Local Land Services as it provides instantaneous communication with landholders– ensuring everyone is kept informed at all times about pest threats, and efforts to reduce pest problems.
