Factors affecting lamb survival

Every year in Australia approximately 11 million lambs die within a week of birth. Of these, 5% die before birth, 20% during birth and 75% after birth. This lamb mortility around the time of birth is the main form of lamb loss in our sheep flocks. Starvation, mismothering, exposure, difficult birth, predators, infection and other factors kill lambs.
