The use of judas animals in exotic animal disease control

An exotic disease incursion into Australia could cause losses of billions of dollars, which would become ongoing should the disease become endemic. The Australian Veterinary Emergency Plan (AUSVETPLAN) has been developed to respond to an exotic animal disease outbreak and includes components to deal with diseases in wildlife. The Control Strategies Group has developed not only prevention strategies but also contingency plans, through the Wildlife and Exotic Disease Preparedness Program.
