Phillip Island. Rabbit eradication

This series of images shows aerial and ground views of subtropical Phillip Island (near Norfolk Island in the South Pacific), before and after the eradication of rabbits from the island. Eradication was effectively completed in 1986.

  • The first two photos were taken in 1979, before the eradication of rabbits.
  • The next four images were taken at two different locations on the island before (taken in 1981) and after (taken in 2008) rabbit eradication.
  • The 2008 photos show natural regeneration of native species, but with the benefit of some weed control.
